The Ministry of Youth and Sports has instructed the Ghana Football Association to urgently request an inspection by the Confederation of African Football(CAF) of the University of Ghana Stadium and the Accra Sports Stadium for approval as venues for Black Stars’ subsequent international match in October.
This move follows CAF’s declaration of the Baba Yara Sports Stadium in Kumasi as unsuitable to host Category 3 matches after the national team’s encounter with Angola in the 2025 AFCON Qualifier.
The Ministry in a statement explained that the anomalies identified during CAF’s previous inspection of the Accra Sports Stadium has been resolved.
The statement further stated that the University of Ghana Sports Stadium, although has not been inspected by CAF since its inauguration for consideration for Category 3 matches has hosted Category 2 marches.
The Ministry expressed confidence that the two stadia will meet CAF’s requirements for Category 3 matches after the inspection and reaffirmed its commitment to renovating the other national stadia to meet CAF’s standards for Category 3 matches.
Meanwhile, The Baba Yara Sports Stadium has since been closed down for necessary refurbishment.
