The Office of the MP for Yendi, Farouk Aliu Mahama, has denied involvement in an assault on Citi FM journalist, Mohammed Alabira. The office claims that Farouk Ali has consistently advocated for a peaceful political environment and does not endorse assaulting anyone. This was contained in a press statement issued by the MP’s office in Yendi.

According to the statement, the incident occurred during a disruption of the election process, and Hon. Farouk Ali condemns all forms of violence. He has, however, assured the general public that his office supports a swift investigation into the matter and urges the Ghana Journalists Association and stakeholders to refrain from premature judgments. Hon. Farouk Ali Mahama is dedicated to fostering a peaceful political environment.

Hon. Farouk Aliu Mahama, in his statement, further denounces the act and urges the Ghana Journalists Association and stakeholders to avoid premature judgements and work towards a composed resolution. “We trust that the appropriate authorities will handle this matter with the urgency it deserves. We call on the Ghana Journalists Association (GJA) and all stakeholders to refrain from making premature judgements and work with the Office for a composed resolution.” The statement added

Meanwhile, according to the Ghana Journalists Association (GJA) Northern Regional Chairman, Mr. Yakubu Abdul-Majeed, the association has already reported the issue to the Ghana Police Service to, as a matter of urgency, arrest the MP over this brutal action.

In an earlier press release, the GJA reiterated its commitment to protecting all journalists in the region, particularly when it comes to carrying out their lawful duties without any hindrance.
