Health workers at the Janjori-Kukuo Health Center of the Nanton District in the Northern Region has been working without electricity for almost a year now.

The facility was disconnected from the national power grid in August last year due to a GH¢30, 000 debt owed to the Northern Electricity Distribution Company (NEDCO).

Information reaching us indicated that, since the disconnection occurred, the facility vaccine refrigerator and other drugs have been kept in a community member’s room.

The Nurse -in-charge of the facility, Ahmed Umar, said the situation is affecting quality healthcare delivery at the facility since the issue has gotten to their superiors but not much had been heard from them.

“It is really affecting our services because we cannot work at night. The nurses who was supposed to stay at the Nurses Quarters have been packed out because of the current situation”.

He said the health workers at the facility have demonstrated their commitment to saving lives, however, stakeholders who were supposed to be championing the welfare of the facility are not doing much.

Residents most especially pregnant women seeking healthcare services in the night, would have to commute to Tamale or Savelugu hospital to be attended to.
