Kodu Technology, an agribusiness based in Tamale has been named the winner of the GoGettaz Agripreneur Prize Competition during the 2024 Africa Food Systems Forum (AFSF) organized in Kigali. The company secured a US$50,000 support to scale up its production of eco-friendly and affordable sanitary pads for underprivileged women in rural Ghana.
Out of the many young entrepreneurs in the competition across Africa, Kodu Technology was among the 12 finalists.
GoGettaz Africa which identifies and supports agrifood businesses in Africa has impacted over 15, 000 young Africans within four years of operation.
Iddi Mohammed Faried represented the company and pitched its innovative ideas, ultimately securing the top spot alongside Fatima El Khou, a Moroccan entrepreneur who also received US$50,000.
Through the use of innovative technology and banana peels, Kodu Technology manufactures environmentally friendly sanitary pads for rural girls with the aim to minimize period poverty. The company’s use of discarded banana peels for sanitary pads production does not only enhances access to menstrual products but also ensures sustainable waste management.
The GoGettaz Agripreneur Competition prize is among several prestigious competitions Kodu Technology has won, including the 2023 Circular Economy Competition which have unlocked opportunities for strategic partnerships with international organizations and also recognized the power of the company’s entrepreneurship drive and innovation.
As the winner of the prestigious GoGettaz Agripreneur Competition Prize, the company is well-positioned to continue its mission of impacting the lives of rural women through affordable and sustainable sanitary pads.
